Under broad supervision of the Director of CIP Construction Services, directs through consultants, and/or staff the design and construction of new buildings, major hospital interior renovations, engineering plant facilities, and/or the alteration, modification, or upgrade of existing facilities, buildings, and operational and plant components. Inspects or sees to the inspection of construction work. Resolves problems that come up during the development and construction process.

Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

  1. Administers contracts and oversees the work of architects, engineers, contractors to ensure contract requirements are being met.
  2. Conducts technical analyses/studies, develops project management plans, and manages projects to meet the specific requirements set forth in initial project management plans.
  3. Reviews construction plans and specifications with stakeholders to assure it meets their program needs and complies with UT Southwestern facility standards.
  4. Enforces contract provisions and resolves budgetary, technical, and scheduling issues for assigned projects. Minimizes changes or modifications that would result in additional costs and takes advantage of cost saving measures.
  5. Makes periodic on-site inspections of projects to ensure construction is proceeding properly and that sites are safe and secure. Initiates corrective action to rectify deficiencies. Maintains project status reports.
  6. Prepares or oversees the preparation of request for proposals, request for qualifications, purchase orders requisitions, project manuals, or other bidding documents for equipment, materials, and/or work defined in project contracts and consultants, which are necessary for the completion of CIP construction projects.
  7. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other responsibilities.
  8. Oversees capital outlay and major CIP projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, engineering physics, architecture, or engineering sciences AND a total of 10 years' of technical experience in an engineering specialty or construction management AND Demonstrated project leadership skills of which. Of the 10 years of technical experience, 5 years is preferred to be directly related to hospital construction management. We have been retained by a St. Louis area client to recruit a Director of Maintenance. Our client is a not-for-profit community-based medical center serving area residents through its 300+ beds and 2100 employees. Our client is strong financially. The Director of Maintenance reports to the Vice President of Facilities Management. The Director of Maintenance will have responsibility over the maintenance department which currently includes three foreman and approximately 40 FTEs.
